Tran Vu Duc Huy and Pham Hoang Hiep are two students of Vinh Phuc High School for the Gifted, who won the first prize in Mathematics in the national exam for excellent students in 2021 that just took place.

This year, the math team of Vinh Phuc High School for the Gifted won 2 first prizes, 1 second prize and 2 third prizes.

Teacher Le Xuan Dai, the leader of the school’s Math Team, is also the one who directly reviews for the students, sharing about the two students who achieved the highest results.

Tran Vu Duc Huy has won the National First Prize since last year, when he was only in grade 11. This year is the second time Huy has achieved this result.

“Huy is obedient, works hard to do homework, presents well. In particular, Huy has two more advantages: his handwriting is very beautiful and careful, and at the same time, he is good at English and can read and translate foreign documents,” Dai shared.

Because Huy has a little health problem, teacher Dai has to work hard for this good student. Methods and timetables must be arranged to suit the student.

The second winner of the Vinh Phuc team is Pham Hoang Hiep.

“This is a very smart student, but… a bit reckless. He studies by inspiration, like if he likes it, he learns, if he doesn’t like it, he’s ready to give up playing football. Part of that is why last year, Hiep only won the third prize in the national competition for excellent students,” Dai said about his student.

This is also the student that Dai has to practice continuously, in addition to teaching knowledge, he also teaches awareness and homework skills. And regardless of the teacher’s efforts as well as his own efforts, this year Hiep had the highest award.

An interesting thing is that Huy and Hiep studied together from grade 1, to grade 9 both won the first prize for excellent students at the provincial level.

Talking to Huy, this “first prize” said that Math was not his “first love”, but when he was in middle school, Huy used to like Biology, but because he didn’t have a Sinh team, the teachers put him on the Math team and he follow until now. Huy does not have much plans to study at university, currently focusing mainly on the national team recruitment contest for the IMO International Mathematical Olympiad.

Meanwhile, Hiep said he realized he loved math since he entered middle school, however, he will pursue technology at university level and has plans to study abroad. After completing the national team recruitment exam, Hiep will focus on learning English.

Like most teams in the country, due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, this year, the training for the team for a long time is online learning. “Of course, face-to-face learning will be better, but for good students, online learning won’t have too much of an effect,” said Mr. Dai.

“Currently, the students in the team are continuing to dedicate themselves to preparing for another challenge, the exam to select students to join the international Qlympic team. I hope they will continue to succeed” – Mr. Dai expressed.
