On March 28, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (Australia) held a signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments of the two countries on supporting Vietnamese citizens to participate in the Agricultural Worker Program in Australia. Currently, Australia is a receiving country for foreign workers with good wages, a clear legal system, ensuring the rights of workers, but strict requirements for skills and foreign languages. It is necessary to send laborers to work in this country in different forms and occupations (including the agricultural sector) to meet the needs of many workers.

On the Australian side, Minister Marise Payne informed that the program to support Vietnamese citizens to participate in the Agricultural Worker Program in Australia is a very important content to promote cooperation between the two sides. “The program will support the supply of labor for Australia to develop the agricultural industry and also an opportunity for Vietnamese workers to come to work with good income and guaranteed working conditions. In addition, I would like to ensure that the welfare of Vietnamese workers is Australia’s biggest priority according to this Memorandum of Understanding,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs said. Previously, the Australian Government announced a visa program for workers in the agricultural sector and selected Vietnam as a priority country to join the program early (besides Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines). This program aims to contribute to filling labor shortages, increasing access to reliable labor in Australia’s agricultural sector.

In addition, the program will bring economic benefits and create opportunities for foreign workers to accumulate knowledge, experience and skills, increase their income as well as send their income back home during their working time. in Australia.

It is expected that Australia will receive Vietnamese laborers in the agricultural sector with the number of about 1,000 workers per year; basic salary (excluding living expenses) from 3,200-4,000 AUD/month (equivalent to about 52.800.000-66,000,000 VND/month). This is a highly appreciated income level compared to other labor receiving markets.
