Former German marathon champion tragically died while training

According to the Guardia Civil (Spain), the tragedy happened while Alexander Lubina was jogging in a fissure in the Cala Serena mountains, Mallorca over the weekend. Suddenly, a storm came, accompanied by flash floods, which made the German athlete unable to take precautions.

Divers later found Lubina’s body in a cave on the night of the accident. The above information really brought a great emotional shock to family, friends, fans and even members of TV club Wattenscheid 01, where the 42-year-old male athlete joined.

“TV Wattenscheid 01 mourns the passing of former athlete Alexander Lubina. Our thoughts are with him and his family at this time. May Alexander’s loved ones have more strength to overcome. through this difficult time”.

A police officer told Bild newspaper: “It’s a very dangerous area. Unfortunately, there have been fatal accidents before.”

Alexander Lubina used to be a famous face in the German athletics village. In 2002, Lubina won the 10,000 m race at the National Athletics Championships. Before the accident, the former champion flew to Mallorca to participate in training for local athletes.

In 2008, Lubina tried to win tickets to the Beijing Olympics but failed. Although he could not fulfill his dream of participating in the Olympics as part of the German track and field team, the passion for marathons has never stopped in him.
