Sharing with the press, the chairman of the French Energy Regulatory Commission Jean-Francois Carenco said that this project will be very useful if France wants to reduce its dependence on gas from Russia and increase supply security. Mr. Carenco added that the goal of the project is to add capacity to receive liquefied natural gas within a year.

If built, the terminal at Le Havre could receive liquefied natural gas from the US, Qatar or Africa. However, according to Mr. Carencot, it is necessary to expedite the application of the necessary permits to build this terminal.

The floating terminal can import 50 Terawatt hours (TWh) of gas per year, equivalent to 3.9 million tons of liquefied natural gas.
