Having participated in the passing exam in grade 11 but did not get into the official team, this year, Huong Giang is determined to retake the exam and win the first prize in English in the national competition for excellent students.

Receiving information about winning the first prize in English in the national exam for excellent students on the morning of the weekend, Chu Huong Giang, a 12th grade English major, Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted (Hai Duong) said: “When I heard the news, , I am speechless happy. I haven’t even seen my score yet but my friends hugged me and cheered loudly. At that time, both you and everyone were happy.”

It is known that in 11th grade, Giang took part in the passing exam, but she did not have enough points to enter the national team. With unremitting efforts, this year, she became the contestant with the highest score in the province in the team selection contest, at the same time “holding” the national first prize.

Not only Giang, but all 8 members of the English team won the award. That is a great reward for the efforts of both teachers and students of Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted.

Besides studying hard, Chu Huong Giang was also the vice president of the school’s English club for two years in a row and only stopped when she started the time to review for the national team exam.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang – the teacher directly in charge of the English team, Huong Giang is a person with many good qualities: aptitude, passion and very high determination. “Giang is loved by everyone because he is affectionate and bright, obedient and sociable. She has depth, thinks deeply, so she writes very well and has a fast writing speed” – Ms. Thu Trang shared.

As for a female student in grade 12 who specializes in English, when asked about her study secret, she simply said: “I study English for almost 12 hours a day”.

Learn English almost 12 hours a day

From elementary school days, when she started to be exposed to English, Huong Giang felt that this was a very interesting subject, it made her feel never bored and always wanted to discover new words.

Sharing the secret to preparing for the exam, Giang said, “There is nothing better than actively learning and practicing hard”.

This year, due to the epidemic situation, the preparation for the team to participate in the national exam for excellent students was extended for up to 5 months, of which nearly 2 months for students at Hai Duong specialized school to study online. It was the most difficult time for teachers and students because the distance in space as well as the learning environment made it difficult to teach and correct lessons.

However, with Huong Giang, during the time of studying for the national team, she still regularly maintains nearly 12 hours to learn English with 8 hours of study with her teacher during the day and 3 to 4 hours of self-study in the evening. For the remaining subjects, I still read more and was facilitated by the school to supplement knowledge after the exam.

When asked about her passion for this new language, Huong Giang said: “Even though I spend half a day studying and tinkering with the formula, I never get bored. Even more, the more I learn, the more interested I am.”

For Giang, learning a foreign language not only helps her have a useful means of communication with international friends, but also helps her learn a lot of useful knowledge about the society, life and culture of your country.

Teachers and students recruited excellent students in English at the national level of Hai Duong High School for the Gifted.

In addition, an important thing to nurture a love for English in Giang is not to be discouraged when facing difficult exercises.

“The difficult exercises help me understand where I am weak, so I do not consider difficult exercises as pressure, but on the contrary, it is a great motivation for me to break through my limits. Dear. Besides, it’s normal to learn from the team that there are many good and difficult lessons, so I have to get used to it.”

The review materials of Huong Giang and her friends are also not many in the textbooks, mainly materials that teachers find and recompose from CPE, IELTS or excellent student exam questions from previous years. In addition, they find more materials to make and synthesize good articles every week to supplement their social knowledge, serving speeches and articles.

With her passion and seriousness in learning English, in addition to achieving the highest results in the national excellent student exam, Huong Giang also excellently achieved 8.5 IELTS.

Sharing about the future direction, she said that she did not intend to study abroad but would enroll in the English Pedagogy Department of the University of Foreign Languages ​​- Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
