Inauguration of the underground tunnel in the center of Da Nang
On the morning of March 28, the People’s Committee of Da Nang City inaugurated an underground tunnel nearly one kilometer west of Tran Thi Ly Bridge, contributing to reducing congestion and making transporting passengers from the airport more convenient.
The project to renovate the cluster of intersections to the west of Tran Thi Ly bridge, Hai Chau district, is designed with 3 floors. In which, the upper floor is 186 m long, connecting the 2/9 road, which has been open to traffic since August 2021; Underpass items with a total length of 950 m under Duy Tan Street from Le Dinh Tham node to Tran Thi Ly bridgehead, and the ground roundabout was inaugurated today. Total investment capital is more than 723 billion VND.
Item underpass is 14.5 m wide, 0.5 m side margin on each side, designed with two lanes in each direction, above are exiting boxes for air and natural light. The part leading to the tunnel is 15.5 m wide, with a margin of one meter on each side.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Huy, Director of Danang Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (project investor and operator), said that the project will reduce traffic jams during peak hours when the means of entering and leaving the wedding restaurant on 2/9 street, creating a complete traffic axis connecting Da Nang international airport and the sea area to the east of the city.
The project also reduces the load on the main roads through the public sea area in the east of the city, such as Nguyen Van Linh and Xo Viet Nghe Tinh streets; creating favorable conditions for increasing the service capacity of Da Nang international airport and organizing urban traffic in the city center.
Mr. Huy also said that engineers and workers faced geological difficulties when constructing the foundation system, leading to the need to adjust technology and construction methods to handle obstacles. Outbreaks of epidemics in the area, especially when all activities had to be halted, caused the supply of materials to be delayed. At the end of 2021, with continuous rain, workers have to take advantage of rare sunny days to overtime in time to distribute, asphalt roads…
“The hands and brains of 400 engineers and workers helped the project complete on schedule after two years of construction, meeting the requirements for quality and art,” Huy said.

Da Nang President Le Trung Chinh said that along with the APEC park expansion project inaugurated in early 2022, this work marks the return of economic, cultural and social development activities in the area. creating new resilience and impetus for the city to recover its economic growth, including the reactivation of urban infrastructure development projects, economic and social projects and tourism restoration.
The work was inaugurated in time to celebrate the 47th anniversary of the liberation of Da Nang City (March 29, 1975); 25 years as a centrally run city.
