RT station (Russia) reported, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo announced on his way to the EU summit on March 25 that the European Union had not yet discussed a ban on Russia’s diamond sector.
Accordingly, Prime Minister De Croo said: “I have not seen a proposal to ban diamond imports from Russia on the negotiating table. I want to emphasize that Belgium will not oppose this decision, but we need to make sure that it does. will harm Russia, not the EU countries.”
“A ban won’t do anything if the destination of the diamond trade is Dubai and then we need appropriate international solutions,” Mr. De Croo stressed.
With an extremely developed jewelry industry, Belgium is one of the main diamond importers from Russia. Earlier, several European media outlets reported that Brussels had objected to discussions of EU sanctions on Russian diamond imports.
