Out of the Big Techs, the one I don’t like the most is Facebook

“When you ‘like’ a friend’s post, the interaction is not between you and the person you know, but it reveals your preferences to Facebook’s advertisers,” the Apple co-founder said.

It is for those reasons that Wozniak broke with Facebook and worried that the social network was too present in his life, both directly and indirectly.

“Of the Big Tech, my favorite is Facebook,” Wozniak said.

To bolster his point, Wozniak appears to have referenced a post by David Baser, Facebook’s director of product management, on a blog in 2018. Baser explained how Facebook and its partners collect and share share personal information even with people who don’t have an account.

“I read how this social network takes data and sends it to Facebook even when you’re not using the app. I don’t believe this makes sense. You should be honest so everyone using the platform knows it can. what to do with them,” Wozniak said.

The Apple co-founder seems to have known how Facebook collects personal data for a long time. However, the bottom line that led him to delete the app was not because of personalized advertising on the data source, but because of habit that could be said to have made users addicted.

“I started watching Facebook because I love videos of small dogs and rescuers. It’s become a habit and I don’t like a habit like that. It’s like you’re addicted.” Wozniak said.

Problems with Facebook have flared up in recent years. Even those who used to work for Facebook also testified before the US Congress around the platform’s priority to attract users over their mental health.

“Facebook makes the wrong choices that keep connecting with the people you love online with your personal privacy,” said Frances Haugen, former Facebook product manager who testified before Congress. , said.

Not just Facebook, Wozniak said he tends to avoid using social networks in general. However, the Apple co-founder said he still uses TikTok mostly to watch dog videos. In addition, TikTok has also been shown not to collect user data for dubious purposes.

To connect with friends and family, Wozniak said he mainly uses Apple services.

“I share my family photos on iCloud. It costs about $2/month. You share family photos with loved ones and they’re protected. It’s private. No one can get your data. and know what you’re doing,” Wozniak said.

Wozniak also argued that if Apple can offer that service for $2, then Facebook should do the same, allowing friends and family to communicate privately.

“Let us pay for our privacy,” Wozniak said.
