The US administration has stepped up aid to Ukraine since Russia launched a military operation in the country in late February, including two billion dollars in security assistance and arms transfers, and one billion dollars in humanitarian assistance. religion.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly urged NATO to provide more weapons such as fighters, medium and long-range air defense systems, armored tanks and anti-ship missiles. However, the alliance members only transferred defensive weapons such as anti-tank missiles and man-portable air defense missiles.

Washington also ruled out supplying Ukraine with military aircraft or modern weapons systems. President Biden in mid-March repeated his previous statement that Washington would not participate in the war in Ukraine, because that risked the outbreak of World War III.

Russia has launched a military campaign in Ukraine since February 24 and the fighting has shown no sign of abating so far. The Russian military’s advance is most favorable on the southern coast of Ukraine, when it controls the large city of Kherson and a number of smaller targets such as Melitopol.

Moscow has been stepping up its offensives in western Ukraine since mid-March, after an initial phase of focusing only on targets in the north, south and east. Many Western countries have provided training to transfer modern weapons, with thousands of anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles, to Ukraine, mainly through the gateway in the west of the country.

NATO leaders are still arguing about the strategy to deal with Russia. Some argue that Moscow should continue to speculate on the threshold that could trigger a larger coalition military response, while others want to clarify what would draw NATO into the conflict.
