Rural women own the economy
Each person has a different situation, but with energy and love for family, many rural women constantly improve their livelihoods and rise up in life.
Fire tests gold, hardships try – that’s the story of Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Thanh (Tan Hoi Trung commune, Cao Lanh district, Dong Thap province). Ms. Thanh shared that her husband is currently a motorbike taxi driver, her young son, who dropped out of school in grade 9, is working as a worker, and her eldest daughter has just entered university. The epidemic lasted for a long time, the family’s economy declined, she had to give up her job as a fruit trader to grow perennial trees and open a restaurant on the highway to make ends meet.
Life is difficult, but on the most stressful days of the epidemic, she still voluntarily cooks meals to support the commune’s forces in charge of epidemic prevention and control. Touched by Ms. Thanh’s heart, many people in the locality also joined hands to contribute bananas, bunches of vegetables, potatoes… for her to cook for her brothers. “If I suffer, there are people who suffer more, so if I can help anyone, I will try to help,” Ms. Thanh shared.
When the epidemic subsided, Ms. Thanh was determined to do business with the frog farming model. She actively asked the Farmers’ Union for advice. Funding obstacles also gradually removed when Ms. Thanh was supported by the “Farmers Support” program. Receiving training and training programs from experts and Greenfeed – the program organizer, she quickly changed her husbandry model. “Even though life has not been as expected, it has never made me give up. On the contrary, I have to remind myself to persevere and work hard,” said Ms. Thanh.
Also one of the characters receiving support from the “Farmers Support” program 2021, Ms. Tran Thi Thanh (Hong Son commune, Ham Thuan Bac district, Binh Thuan province) shared that her day starts at 2 am. ; working in the fields, taking care of food and water, and taking care of two small children. The meager amount of money that the great-grandmother spends is mostly spent on treating her child’s heart disease. Last year, the dragon fruit garden suffered a heavy loss, the family’s chickens were also stolen, and the economy was more difficult. The family’s income depends entirely on a small vegetable garden and borrowed money from the locality.
Not giving up, Ms. Thanh cherished the plan to expand the chicken flock size and earn more income to raise her children. She told many sleepless nights, only dreaming about a flock of chickens with dozens or hundreds of chickens, raising capital to take care of the children. “The two of them are very understanding and sympathetic to their mother, so as long as the children are healthy and study well, it doesn’t matter how hard I work,” she said.
The belief about a bright tomorrow, Ms. Thanh seems to be built up when she receives support from the program “Supporting farmers”. With the capital and knowledge and skills from the program, now, the rich farm garden – which was only her dream has gradually become clear.
Ms. Thanh and Ms. Thanh are just two of many strong-willed rural women who have been helped to rise up in life through the “Farmers Support” program organized by Greenfeed Vietnam and Tuoi Tre newspaper. By supporting interest-free loans, animal feed costs, livestock technical training, and scholarships for children of households, after more than 10 years, the program has accompanied more than 2,400 farming households. people in 16 provinces and cities across the country on a sustainable path out of poverty. The total fund of the program is used as a support source of more than 68 billion VND, the number of households that have escaped from poverty is 447 households, and the number of households with successful business certification is 1,340.
According to a representative of the program organizers, despite many worries, many rural women always nurture optimism and work hard to become an economy and write their own stories. This is also the motivation for Greenfeed to maintain the “Farmers support” program for many years, thereby spreading the message “Nourishing goodness, accompanying growth” in the community.
