Russia withdrew from the town near Chernobyl, Ukraine issued a military decree

According to Ukrainian officials, Russian troops have withdrawn from the town of Slavutych located near the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

“The Russian soldiers finished their work here. They conducted a survey of this town, then finished the work and left this place for today. There aren’t any Russian soldiers left in the town at the moment,” Slavutych Mayor Yuri Fomichev told Al Jazeera news agency.

Earlier on March 26, Ukrainian military officials confirmed that Russia had taken control of the town of Slavutych, formerly the residence of workers responsible for operating the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. accused Russian soldiers of “seizing the hospital in the town and ‘kidnapping’ the mayor”.

The New York Post reported that Mayor Fomichev while being “kidnapped” assured Russian soldiers that the Ukrainian armed forces were not present in this town. “They then issued an order asking people in the town to hand over military weapons,” Fomichev added.

Ukraine bans posting of military deployment directions

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree prohibiting the posting of information about the mobilization of troops or the movement of military equipment, unless such information is announced in advance or approved by the Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Army.

“This decree prohibits the dissemination of false information about the operation or direction of international military assistance to Ukraine. All mobilization or deployment of Ukrainian troops and other military forces is carried out in a state of martial law, or under a state of emergency.”

Ukrainian gas depot hit by missile

The head of the Ukrainian armed forces in Volyn province, Yuriy Pohuliayko, said that a gas depot in the city of Lutsk in the province was hit by rockets.

“Rescuers are still working at the site of the attack. Preliminary statistics show that there are no human casualties. The missile that hit the gas depot was fired from the territory of Belarus. It flew at a low altitude so radar systems could not detect it,” Pohuliayko told Ukrinform newspaper.

Russian and Belarusian officials have not yet commented on the information.
