The New York Times reported that in recent days, public opinion in the town of Montreux, western Switzerland, could not help but be shocked and excited by the case of a family of French descent who committed suicide.
Four of the five people who jumped from the seventh floor of the apartment building, located on an upmarket neighborhood of the town of Montreux on the shores of Lake Geneva, died, the only 15-year-old boy still alive but in critical condition.

Police said five members of the same family – a man, 40, his wife, 41, and her twin sister, along with the couple’s 8-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son – jumped off the balcony after 2 policemen knocked on the apartment door. Four people, except for a 15-year-old boy, died when he fell to the ground, while the boy was taken to hospital in critical condition.
Vaud state police spokesman Jean Christophe Sauterel told RTS television: “The police couldn’t get into the apartment and it looks like at the time this family decided to jump off the balcony. It was like a horror movie. An investigation was underway, but the police were there. confirmed that the incident happened after they locked the main door from the inside, and that no one else was in the apartment at the time.”
“The investigation will help determine what caused the entire family to take their own lives.” Mr. Jean told the media. “Investigators do not rule out any theories.”
Weird attitude before it happened
Police said a few police officers knocked on the door of the apartment to talk to the father about not sending his 15-year-old son to school but staying at home.
They knocked on the door and heard a voice asking who they were, but when they answered, everything became eerily quiet. No one opened the door, nor was there a voice from inside. After being lost, the police officers left. At the same time, a witness called the hotline to report someone falling from above.

A neighbor told the Tribune de Geneve news outlet: “I saw five people lying motionless about 10 meters away from the building, three on one side and two on the other. It was difficult to understand what I was seeing. It was like a horror movie.”
Spokesman Jean said the family members were all French citizens who had lived in Switzerland for “several years” and had residency status.
“We know that this is a rather private family with little contact with the outside.”.
He explained: “We are interested in that case because the family did not respond to a request for information from the teacher at the school. The school is forced to fully investigate the matter if the child does not attend school, this is a common practice. when a student voluntarily quits school”.

According to Tribune de Geneve, neighbors said the father appeared to be working from home. The mother is a dentist who used to work in Paris, while her twin sister is an ophthalmologist.
