Apple plans to cut production of iPhone smartphones and AirPods headphones, as the Ukraine crisis and inflation are starting to affect demand for consumer electronics.

Nikkei said that Apple intends to cut production by about 2-3 million iPhone SE units in the next quarter – equivalent to a 20% reduction compared to the original plan.

Apple will also reduce orders for AirPods wireless headphones by more than 10 million units for the whole of 2022, in order to reduce inventory in the context of relatively “dismal” market demand.

These moves come at a time when the world technology industry is facing increasing pressure, as the conflict in Ukraine exacerbates inflation and semiconductor shortages.

Currently, Apple has not commented on the information given by Nikkei Asia.

Earlier, this month, Apple announced a 5G connectivity version of its low-cost phone iPhone SE.

Research firm Counterpoint Research said that the previous iPhone SE 4G version accounted for 12% of total iPhone sales from its launch in the second quarter of 2020 to the end of 2021. Of which, Japan is the second largest market of the line. This phone, after the US.
