After an hour of intervention, the baby is still having difficulty breathing, so a combination of two types of aerosol adrenaline and budesonide should be used. After 5 days of intensive treatment, the baby’s health has improved, no need for oxygen support, can eat and drink, continue to monitor and treat COVID-19.

According to Dr. Tien, the acute laryngitis to the extent of respiratory failure in this child is the most severe complication of respiratory failure, at level 2B; other children with respiratory failure grade 1 and 2A, recovered earlier. This is a very rare disease. Ho Chi Minh City Children’s Hospital has only recorded about 10 cases. World literature only recorded a few scattered cases.

The cause of acute laryngitis is usually infection with the parainfluenza virus (parainfluenzae virus), which occurs in children aged 5 months to 3 years, but nCoV can also cause this condition. It is suspected that the child may be coinfected with influenza and COVID-19 at the same time.
