During the International Labor Day holiday, a teenager was seen drawing on a stele engraved with ancient characters more than 500 years old at the Shaolin Temple in Henan province. Graffiti street art-style inscriptions are also engraved on the bamboo tree near the temple.

A month later, the two men were fined hundreds of yuan and detained for writing on a section of the Great Wall in Hebei province.

In September, a 54-year-old tourist confessed to carving words on the wall outside the West Gate of the Forbidden City.
