Official information about the girl’s death after breast augmentation at 1A Hospital

According to the report, at 6:30 p.m. on March 18, the Department received information from the Tan Binh District Police about the case of a female patient who died after breast augmentation at 1A Hospital (No. Tan Binh).

On March 22, leaders of the Department of Health and functional units worked with the Board of Directors of 1A Hospital. Mr. Do Trong Anh, Director of 1A Hospital, presented the whole case of medical examination and treatment for female patient Nguyen Thi Ngoc Nhu (33 years old, living in District 6, Ho Chi Minh City).

At present, the case is still being coordinated by the authorities to investigate the cause of death to be handled in accordance with the law.

The hospital has provided legal records of the hospital and the doctors. The Department of Health has directed 1A Hospital to quickly organize a meeting of a hospital-level professional council to review and re-evaluate the entire medical examination and treatment process of patient Nguyen Thi Ngoc Nhu.

The hospital’s report said that during the surgery, an abnormality was detected on the monitor.

According to the report of 1A Hospital, the patient was introduced by Doctor (BS) Nguyen Van Thiet to the hospital for examination of breast hypoplasia (small breasts) on both sides and performed surgery at 9:10 on March 18. Methods of surgical treatment of breast reconstruction with gel bags and anesthesia methods of endotracheal anesthesia.

The patient was tested for COVID-19 by Dr. Vo Van Tuan, pre-operative tests including chest X-ray, electrocardiogram, ultrasound, biochemical blood test, minutes of consultation, pre-anesthesia examination and surgical anesthesia. Dr. Nguyen Van Thiet performed surgery to place breast implants on both sides, and Dr. Vo Van Tuan was in charge of anesthesia and resuscitation. During the surgery, an abnormality was detected on the monitor. When examining and detecting pneumothorax, the surgeon stopped the operation and invited the doctor of the intensive care unit (ICU) to support and treat emergency according to the procedure. The patient stopped breathing during surgery.

Dr. Nguyen Van Thiet is a specialist in surgery, has a practicing certificate of surgical examination and treatment, issued by the Ministry of Health in 2014.

On August 26, 2021, the Ministry of Health issued Decision No. 4127/QD-BYT to supplement the scope of professional medical examination and treatment activities in plastic surgery for Dr. Thiet. Dr. Vo Van Tuan is a specialist in Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, with a practicing certificate issued by the City Health Department in 2014 with the scope of professional medical examination and treatment, specialized in Anesthesia and Resuscitation.

Both of the above doctors have labor contracts with 1A Hospital from November 2021.
