At some point, many of us will buy a top or other pretty dress when the neckline is too low for our liking. This annoying obstacle often results in you using a safety pin, or pulling it up every five minutes to keep people from paying attention to the lace bra. However, there is a far more elegant alternative described in a recent TikTok video, with the resourceful craft blogger promising a “long-term solution to a blemished neckline”.
He cut the ribbon from the back of the shirt, sewing it inside the neckline
A fashionista who goes by the username @the_crafterlife shared a video of herself wearing a pretty shirt but making the basic mistake of easily exposing her boobs.
“If you’re sick of using safety pins to hold the top down when it’s too low,” she explains, “this trick is for you. Find a small piece of ribbon that sticks inside the garment and cut it,” she explains. What you can then do is carefully melt the edges so they don’t fray, mark the top where you want to seal it, and then sew by hand – or by machine – tape inward, for a permanent solution to the neckline gap.
The video has been liked more than 22.8k times, the vlogger can be seen tying the ribbon into a neat little ribbon, before tucking it into a shirt.
Needless to say, his followers have been impressed by this simple but highly effective tip, which is sure to have a lot of people dig into previously unusable tops.
One commented that they would “do this with all my clothes now”, while another wondered “why don’t they actually design t-shirts like this”.
Others called him “genius” and “amazing”.
