Cambodia speeds up vaccination progress for 3-4 year olds

Cambodia has deployed COVID-19 vaccine for children from 3 to 4 years old for more than 1 month. Initially, many parents were concerned about the side effects of the vaccine on their children’s health, so the number of children vaccinated was still low, but after receiving the advocacy of the grassroots government, the parents Parents in Cambodia have been taking their children to be vaccinated more and more.

Niroth Ward Medical Center, Chbar Ompov District is one of 74 places to vaccinate against COVID-19 for children aged 3 to 4 years old in Phnom Penh. As early as 8am, many families in the ward and surrounding areas brought their children of this age to the ward’s health center for COVID-19 vaccination.

Ms. Sai Pisey – A resident of Niroth ward, Chbar Ompov district, Phnom Penh shared: “I am very happy that my 3-year-old daughter was vaccinated against COVID-19. Previously, when I received the vaccination notice for her child, I also hesitated whether to take him for injections or not, but after the guidance of the medical staff, I was very reassured. She had the first injection and had no problems.”

Due to the characteristics of the young age, vaccination facilities in Cambodia pay special attention to safety criteria to ensure peace of mind for families who bring their children to be vaccinated.

Mr. Un Sokunthy – Head of the Medical Center of Niroth Ward, Chbar Ompov District, Phnom Penh said: “We have coordinated with the local government to make a list of children aged 3 to 4 years old in the area and mobilized Although many parents were hesitant at first, we all answered specifically about the symptoms they might experience and their other concerns about the child’s health after the family volunteered to bring their children to be vaccinated. When the children come home, the medical center and the family still maintain exchanges to monitor and take care of the children’s health.”

Currently, Cambodia has vaccinated nearly 300,000 children, reaching nearly 50% of children of this age. This Southeast Asian country is striving to speed up the immunization schedule for children aged 3 to 4 years from now until the Chol Chnam Thmey Traditional New Year on April 14.
