Five spots left for the World Cup 2022

After the series of play-offs in Europe and Africa on the evening of March 29, there were 27 teams guaranteed to participate in the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar.

Europe has 13 seats. After passing the play-off round, Portugal and Poland followed Germany, England, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Serbia and Switzerland to win tickets to Qatar at the end of the year.

The 13th place will be determined after FIFA determines the time to hold the Scotland – Ukraine match. The team that wins this pair will play in the play-off final and compete for a ticket with Wales – the team that overcame Austria 2-1 on March 24.

Asia has identified four straight teams: Iran, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and Japan, besides the host Qatar. Meanwhile, the UAE will play-off kick against Australia, to choose the team to play the intercontinental match against Peru – the fifth-placed team in the South American qualifying round. Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador and Uruguay are the South American teams that have won direct tickets.

Africa also determined all five places to go to Qatar after the play-off series, including Cameroon, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia.

In the CONCACAF region (North – Central America and the Caribbean), Canada was the only team to win tickets to Qatar. The US (25 points), Mexico (23 points), Costa Rica (22 points) will compete for the remaining two tickets. In the last round on March 31, Costa Rica met the US, and Mexico met El Salvador. The fourth-placed team will play a play-off against the winner of the Oceania qualifying final between the Solomon Islands and New Zealand.

The draw for the 2022 World Cup grouping was held in Doha, Qatar at 19:00 on April 1 (ie 23h on the same day, Hanoi time).. Like the 2018 World Cup, the seed groups for this year’s draw are determined based on the FIFA ranking. Accordingly, the group of eight seeded teams of the 2022 World Cup includes the host Qatar, and the top seven teams of FIFA are Brazil, Belgium, France, Argentina, England, Spain and Portugal. Italy is currently sixth, but did not make it past the play-offs.

Group two consists of the next eight highest ranked teams, and similarly group three. Group four consisted of the five lowest-ranked teams, along with the two winners of the intercontinental play-offs and the winners of the remaining European play-offs.

From this seed grouping, the 2022 World Cup can appear a table of death, when the Netherlands (10th place in FIFA), Germany (11th), Denmark – the semi-finalist of Euro 2021 or Croatia – the runner-up. World Cup – located in group two.
