Seraphin is the city’s second garbage power plant. The first factory in Nam Son waste treatment area (Nam Son landfill, Soc Son), with a capacity of 5,500 tons of waste/day and night, is expected to go into operation from the second quarter of 2022. The two plants will basically process all the domestic waste in the city. Currently, the amount of waste in the area is about 7,000 tons/day, most of which is still being treated by landfill.

In addition to the above two projects, Hanoi will continue to implement waste treatment projects in Chuong My, Phu Xuyen, Thanh Tri and Gia Lam. City leaders believe that the construction of a garbage factory around the central area will contribute to reducing transportation distances, reducing costs and reducing budget expenditures.

Xuan Son solid waste treatment area currently receives and treats domestic solid waste from 12 districts including: Ba Vi, Chuong My, Dan Phuong, Hoai Duc, My Duc, Phuc Tho, Phu Xuyen, Quoc Oai, Thach That , Thanh Oai, Thuong Tin, Ung Hoa and Son Tay town. The average volume of this landfill receives about 1,500 tons/day. Of which, 1,400 tons/day is landfilled and about 100 tons are burned.

According to the master plan on solid waste treatment of Hanoi capital to 2030, with a vision to 2050, Hanoi has 17 solid waste treatment zones. But now the city has only 2 zones (Soc Son Waste Treatment Complex, Soc Son District and Xuan Son Solid Waste Treatment Area, Son Tay Town) operating.
