A team of Russian developers has successfully developed an alternative to Google’s Play Store and will launch on May 9. This date coincides with Russia’s Victory Day, a national event held annually to commemorate the country’s victory in World War II over Nazi Germany in 1945.
The app store was developed after Google suspended all payment services in Russia earlier this month. This means that Russian users cannot buy apps on the Play Store, but can only download free software. This means that developers will not have a source of revenue from this country.

The alternative store for the Russian Play Store is called NashStore, or in English it is “OurStore”, which means “Our Store.”
“Unfortunately, Russians can no longer use Google Play to buy apps normally and developers have lost their source of income”Vladimir Zykov, project director of Digital Platforms, an organization focused on digital development, said in a statement to Reuters. “This is why we created a Russian app store, NashStore.” he added.
According to the developer, NashStore will serve Russian Android devices and will, of course, be compatible with the country’s financial system.
It’s unclear, though, whether the NashStore will be able to attract developers in countries other than Russia. Because, under pressure from the Government in many countries as well as the value of the Russian ruble is at a record low, many large corporations and companies in the world are actively stopping selling their products.
