The number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise, Shanghai expands the blockade area

City Shanghai with a population of 26 million reported a total of 5,982 cases COVID-19 new cases locally on March 30, an increase of more than 1,500 cases compared to the previous day. Only 326 of these people with COVID-19 had symptoms.

Pudong district in the east of the city is in the 3rd day of the wave lockdown which was scheduled to extend to the districts west of the Huangpu River on April 1.

However, the government of Min Hang district in the southwest announced late on March 29 that the district would suspend public bus services until April 5.

Some residents living in the Western counties also received notices of travel restrictions. The notices say residents will stay indoors for the next 7 days for reasons such as pandemic control or because a neighbor or relative has tested positive for COVID-19.

The topic “Pudong Pandemic” is one of the most trending topics on China’s Weibo social networking platform today.

A widely shared video shows a robotic dog with a megaphone strapped to its back walking around the empty streets of a housing complex, reminding residents to take necessary precautions.

The closure has affected automakers in the city of Shanghai, including two major suppliers Aptiv and Thyssenkrupp. Along with that, Tesla closed factories to control COVID-19.
