The school has 4 first prizes for national excellent students in English

According to the announcement of the Ministry of Education and Training on the results of the national excellent students selection exam for the school year 2021-2022, the English subject has 9 first prizes nationwide. In which, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted has “taken” up to 4 prizes.

This is the first time that Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted has won 4 first prizes in English, and it is also the first time that Ho Chi Minh City has achieved this result.

What’s more interesting is that although the school has 3 specialized English classes for each grade, there were 3 classmates in 12CA2 who won the first prize, namely Bui Quoc Khai, Le Phu Anh Khang, and Ho Dinh Xuan Khanh. Class 12CA2 also has a friend, Nguyen Hung Thinh, who won the third prize.

Another first prize went to Nguyen Cong Thai Duong, a student of class 11CA2.

Previously, Bui Quoc Khai and Ho Dinh Xuan Khanh also won the first prize at the national HSG contest in 2020-2021.

National English team of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted

Teacher Tran Kim Duyen, a teacher in charge of the English team of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted, said that this year, the training of good students still takes place from July to October, right in the period of the Covid-19 epidemic. In Ho Chi Minh City, the stress is the most, so most of the time it’s online learning.

Online learning is also much more difficult. For example, when you study online, you can only do it on the computer, then she corrects it through DOC. During face-to-face learning, she will require handwriting so that students feel the clarity and clarity of expression.

Until October, when Ho Chi Minh City sent 12th graders back to school, she and her students only had a few face-to-face lessons before the city team selection exam.

“Despite the hardships, the children all worked very hard. There was even a time in the team where a friend had F0 but didn’t take a break, still begging her to let her study online with her friends,” Ms. Duyen said.

Fortunately, most of the girls and students have known each other for years, so they all understand the personality and characteristics of each member, which is more convenient for review.

With Ms. Duyen, the members of the school’s team are all very obedient, hardworking, know how to listen to teachers and are very proactive, with good self-study ability.

“There is no good girl who is proud. They are very united, sharing, helping to learn from each other, not competing or being pretentious.”

In the English team of Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted this year, Thai Duong is a special student. Although she studied one course after her classmates, before that, Duong was also a classmate of Khai, Khang and Khanh.

In the 10th grade, for some reason, Duong moved with his family to Hungary. Then, because the epidemic affected the economy, Duong’s family decided to return.

10X said, when I went back to my old school, I felt very shy and also encountered a certain “surprise”.

“I used to think it would be difficult to ‘re-integrate’ into this school. Therefore, when I returned, I immediately rushed to study to regain my roots, then set the goal of becoming a member of the national team of excellent students to forget that shortfall.”

But also thanks to the help of old friends and teachers in the process of studying for the team, Duong gradually feels more familiar and comfortable.

“I reintegrated into this school after only a month,” Duong said.

Winning the national first prize in English when he was an 11th grader, Duong said it was very meaningful and made him feel that returning was not a waste.

As for Le Phu Anh Khang, his pressure was that he had missed the opportunity to take the national excellent student exam last year. “But pressure is also a motivation for me,” Khang said.

During the sprint phase, Khang practiced almost all day. “I try to find topics online and also foreign articles to read more. For the listening part, I mainly search on Youtube.

The time to study for the national team exam was also when I was preparing documents to “apply” to universities in the US and Finland, so I also had to write a lot of essays. This is also a way for me to practice writing short paragraphs. Learning is fun and comfortable, I think that’s the best way to practice.”

For the speaking part, Khang also found the topic by himself, then gave himself 5 minutes to prepare. He usually sets up the recorder himself and only lets himself record it once, just like in the real exam. Listening to recordings again and finding mistakes, then correcting them, according to Khang, is a very effective way to practice speaking.

In addition, a fortunate thing, Khang believes that the team members are ready to support and share tips for each other. Because each person has their own strengths, the whole team will exchange and supplement to progress together.

Winning the national first prize in English and IELTS with 8.5, Khang will have the opportunity to directly enroll in a number of universities in the country. However, 10X still wishes to be able to pursue Computer Science in the US.
