China: A county ordered to kill all pets in the house of people with COVID-19

The operation stopped at 5 pm on the same day, Tan Van Xa quoted an employee of Langfang Center for Disease Control and Prevention as saying. It is not clear how many animals were killed.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says pets can catch COVID-19 from people, but the risk of pets transmitting the disease to people is “low”.

China has been actively pursuing a strategy of thoroughly controlling and preventing COVID-19 (zero-COVID) since the beginning of the pandemic.

Half of Shanghai – which has a population of about 26 million – was locked down earlier this week after thousands of new cases were recorded in the country’s most populous city. The other half will be locked down on April 1.

Hebei province, where Langfang is located, has recorded hundreds of new COVID-19 cases daily in recent weeks, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention said.
