Facebook hires a company to defame TikTok

AmericaTargeted Victory is said to receive Facebook money to carry out a campaign to send unfavorable information with TikTok to the media.

According to The Washington Post, Facebook’s parent company – Meta – paid one of the most prominent Republican consulting firms to run a nationwide campaign to discredit TikTok. The short video social network is Facebook’s biggest competitor in many parts of the world, including the US.

According to the report, Targeted Victory has provided a series of information, commentary articles, and e-mails to editors of local and other major newspapers. In the email The Washington Post get it, a Targeted Victory executive said employees need to “send the message that while Facebook is the place to vent, TikTok is the real danger. Especially this is a country-owned app. beyond being at the forefront of sharing the data that teenagers are using”.

Some of the comment posts submitted contain links to negative news about TikTok and are often featured by influential public figures and politicians, including Democrats. News of Meta’s decision to hire a company to defame a rival comes just weeks after the company announced that Facebook had lost users for the first time in its 18-year history. Another recent report also said that the number of active users on Facebook also dropped by nearly 500,000 at the end of last year.
