Today (March 31) is the last deadline for manufacturers and importers of products and packages to declare and send a declaration of the amount of contributions to support waste treatment to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. , in accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Protection Law 2020 on implementing extended producer responsibility (EPR).

After that, importers and manufacturers are responsible for making a one-time payment to the Vietnam Environmental Protection Fund before April 20.

Although the new regulation has been applied since this year, it has been received very positively by many businesses and environmental experts.

According to regulations, even this year, manufacturers and importers of products such as batteries, cigarettes, diapers, diapers, chewing gum, plant protection drugs, etc. will be responsible for waste disposal.

The above regulation will apply to all businesses with revenue over 30 billion VND last year, importers over 20 billion VND.

According to a representative of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, every year the budget has to pay over VND 20,000 billion for environmental treatment and domestic waste, so the contribution of manufacturers and importers to Environmental Protection Fund Vietnam will be a significant source of funding to support current waste treatment.

“The cost of collecting and treating domestic waste is a huge expense, increasing every year because the volume increases and people also pay a part. Therefore, the producer is responsible for partially supporting and supplementing the cost. additional funding to help solve the problem of overloading waste collection and treatment,” said Phan Tuan Hung, Director of the Legal Department, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

“With a direct financial contribution to the Environmental Protection Fund, it will be a relatively large additional financial source in the future to offset the costs, especially in localities where it is difficult to manage costs. solid waste”, said Ms. Nguyen Hoang Phuong, Head of Policy and Law Advisory Group, e-Policy Consulting Co., Ltd.
