Oversized models have to pay extra when taking photos

On March 18, Megan Mesveskas, director of Model Nexus modeling agency (New York, USA) contacted William Lords, a famous photographer, to carry out her test shooting project.

According to Mesveskas, there are many photographers willing to shoot for free, but she still wants to pay to get a professional product.

However, when receiving an email quote from Lords, Mesveskas was surprised because his oversized models had to pay to 1,050 USD for the shoot – the fee is for a large sample object. Meanwhile, standard models only pay 950 USD.

“I was shocked when I saw the email. Having been in fashion since I was 13 years old, I have never seen a photographer casually charge extra fees for models that he considers large,” Mesveskas said. The Independent.

To express his anger, Mesveskas posted a screenshot of Lords’ email on social media.

Sitine Rouyre, a Model Nexus model, also expressed frustration with a comment: “This is an example of the injustice of the modeling industry. Here, those who have a body size over size 0. They were all treated badly.”

Size 0 (US standard) is the body size for women with three bust measurements ranging from 76-56-81 cm to 84-64-89 cm. When it comes to size 0, the default fashion world is the clothing size for super skinny people.

Over the past 10 years, the photographer has been known for his numerous projects with high-end brands such as Hervé Léger, Vogue Arabia and Flaunt Magazine. Lords moved from London (UK) to New York and became a prominent black element in the fashion industry.

“Model Nexus models are saying what they feel about themselves, not how I think,” he says.

Lords insists he has never met Rouyre or her agent. However, he admits he charges more for oversized models.

The reason given by Lords is that he is not only the photographer but also the designer of the shooting scene. He had to pay out of pocket to buy clothes for the models during the test shoot.

“When I started shooting oversized models, I found it very difficult to buy clothes for them. They pay extra. 100 USD while I have to withdraw thousands of dollars is reasonable. I’m doing everything to make them part of the fashion industry,” Lords said.

The photographer also said that he is considering legal action to protest the behavior of Mesveskas and Rouyre. He called their statements a “smear campaign”.

“I don’t treat models badly. I charge extra 100 USD because I had to put in more effort for the task,” Lords explained.
