“We regret that, following the expulsions of Russian diplomats over the past few years, the Russian diplomatic mission has not shown any interest in proper functioning in Slovakia.” Mr. Tomaga said.

Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger also expressed his displeasure in a message posted on Facebook titled “Dasvidania” which means “goodbye” in Russian. “My government will not tolerate the Russians in Slovakia, under the guise of diplomacy, leading large-scale espionage operations…”, Heger wrote.

Slovakia, a member of the European Union (EU), asked three Russian diplomats to leave the country in early March on charges of espionage.

According to the Guardian, the move comes a day after other EU countries, Belgium, the Netherlands, Ireland and the Czech Republic announced the expulsion of dozens of Russian diplomats suspected of spying on their host countries. Before that, the US and Poland also made similar moves.
