Talking about his experience of finding worms in the river, Mr. Chuc said, observing the color of the water and the fineness of the mud, if the water is cloudy and the mud is fine, there are definitely many worms there.

Once the location of the worms has been identified, the person catches the racquet under the water, soaks it up to the neck, then uses his hand to push the mud into the racket until the racket is full, then bring it up. Mr. Nguyen Huu Hung (living in Ward 6, Soc Trang City) said that the job of worming and catching worms, although earning a good income, is very hard. Soaking in murky water day in and day out is easy to get skin diseases.

Mr. Khoi (a worm catcher only in Soc Trang city) insists that you have to go underwater to know the danger. At first, he found it very uncomfortable, but after working hard, he got used to it.

Along the Maspero River there are about 6-7 people practicing worms, they go from place to place. Experience is that the more polluted the water source, the more worms there are. “Every day I catch about 2-3 worms, there are also more days, selling 120,000 VND per kilogram,” Mr. Khoi said.

Many people in the profession confided that doing this job is hard, arduous, and dangerous, but it gives a stable income, because they have to “wear” karma for a living.

“Doing this job just hope you don’t have problems, good health is okay. Even so, I and many people still hope that the river is not polluted, maybe I don’t catch worms but I will find another job to do. do, protect long-term health”, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Chac confided.
