White House officials said they declassified the intelligence to provide a comprehensive view of what they see as a miscalculation by the Russian president.
“We believe he is receiving misinformation from his advisers about the dire state of the Russian military and the extent of the damage that Western sanctions are causing,” White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield said. to the press, “Because senior advisers are too afraid to tell the truth”.
Bedingfield also stressed that Putin is in a state of tension with senior Russian military officials. “We received information that Putin feels deceived by the Russian military, leading to constant tension between Putin and the military leadership.”

The US side confirmed that this effort was started before the Russian campaign by releasing classified information “in a methodical manner”, revealing Putin’s “tacticals”. An official in the US administration said the US effort could “make Putin rethink who can be trusted”.
