This is one of the sages who helped King Tan win the country. But the king himself forgot his services. Later, he retired to hide in Dien Son mountain with his mother.

When King Tan remembered about Gioi Tu Thoi, he immediately sent someone to invite him back to receive gifts, but he couldn’t. King Tan sent men to burn the forest to force him, but he remained steadfast in his stance. Unfortunately, both Gioi Tu Tui and his mother died in the fire.

In memory of Gioi Tu Thoi, King Tan ordered his people to refrain from burning fires for 3 days and only eat cold prepared food. Since then, the Han Thuc Festival was born.

Han Thuc New Year originated in China, but when it entered Vietnam, the meaning of this day also changed.
