What medicine can babies with COVID-19 take?

In the Guidelines for care and management at home with pregnant women, nursing mothers and infants with COVID-19, the Ministry of Health pays special attention when caring for infants with COVID-19. COVID-19 at home.

Children need fever-reducing medicine when their body temperature is above 38.5°C. Antipyretics containing Paracetamol at a dose of 10-15 mg/kg/time (oral or rectal use), at least 4-6 hours apart if needing to be repeated. Note that the total dose should not exceed 60 mg/kg/day. If the child vomits within 15 minutes, the child can be given an alternate dose.

In case the child has a stuffy nose, use 0.9% sodium chloride physiological saline solution, drop 2-3 drops in each nostril when the child shows signs of stuffy nose and has difficulty latching onto the breast. Should warm the bottle of physiological saline before instilling the child’s nose.

Parents absolutely do not give babies a sauna in any form and do not arbitrarily use antiviral, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory drugs for babies without any indication or prescription.

The new guidelines also advise pregnant women and nursing mothers how to safely take medication when they have COVID-19. Accordingly, pregnant and lactating women do not arbitrarily use antiviral, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory drugs… when there are no indications or prescriptions.

With antipyretic drugs, patients only use when the body temperature is above 38.5°C or severe headache and only use antipyretic drugs containing Paracetamol alone (the dosage is as directed for adults in Section 5.2 of the “Guidelines” home management guidelines for people with COVID-19″).

When these symptoms appear, patients should note the following medication:

– Cough: Use folk methods such as lemon, honey, gargle with 0.9% sodium chloride solution. Medicines can be used as cough medicine containing active ingredients Dextromethorphan, Guaifenesin… or herbal cough medicine. Patients Do not use drugs contraindicated for pregnant women, nursing mothers.

– Nasal congestion, runny nose: Nasal spray, nasal drops with 0.9% sodium chloride solution.

– Diarrhea: Supplement with Oresol, zinc (10-20 mg/day).

The Ministry of Health also noted that pregnant women and lactating mothers need to continue using the drug on an outpatient basis if they have underlying medical conditions or as directed by a doctor.
