The Ford Equator Sport is the entry-level entry in the purely Chinese SUV lineup and is a smaller, cheaper and somewhat sportier option than the previous Ford Equator and Evos. Vehicles assembled by Jiangling – Ford joint venture in the area.
In terms of design, Ford Equator Sport takes most of the Equator frame as the foundation, but the size of the two cars is quite different. The junior 5-seater SUV has a length of only 4,630 mm, a width of 1,935 mm and a height of 1,706 mm with a wheelbase of 2,726 mm, 275, 5, 49 and 139 units less than the original Equator, respectively.
The rest, Ford’s familiar design language continues to be used with slim LED headlights, large hexagonal radiators, aluminum cladding and overall sharp lines. Compared to the Equator, the side window frames of the car are a bit slimmer and the rear lights change from a full LED horizontal bar to two more traditional separate clusters.
Ford Equator Sport interior uses 2 12.3-inch screens on the dashboard, in which the central screen uses the Tencent TAI 4.0 infotainment system to replace the commonly found SYNC4 globally to better support local users. Compared to its price list, the China-assembled SUV cabin offers quite a good value with a large sunroof, leather seats/doors/dashboard and wood paneling on the lower half of the dash.
The Ford Equator Sport engine is equipped with a 1.5L EcoBoost turbocharged 168 horsepower, 260 Nm torque combined with a 7-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission and front-wheel drive system. Meanwhile, the new Equator, Evos and even the new Mondeo use larger cylinder engines at 2.0L.
The starting price of the Ford Equator Sport in China is 22,050 USD, the highest version starts at 26,150 USD, significantly lower than the Equator (starting at 26,800 USD) and Evos ($ 31,500).
