Why does the “Apple” have a bad bite?

Apple was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne in April 1976, no one could have imagined that a company that started in the garage would become a technology giant with a market capitalization of 3 trillion USD.

Why is there a bite mark in the logo?

The reason for the bite of an apple is to avoid confusion with other fruits such as cherries or tomatoes. Janoff also had a lucky coincidence then with the term computer with “bite” and “byte” being homonyms, and the fact that a byte is the smallest unit of digital information, and thus is the basis of computers.

Rainbow logo

This is the first logo. Jobs gave Rob Janoff (a graphic designer) the task of coming up with a more appropriate and awesome design for the logo. In an interview, Janoff said he didn’t know any information on how the Apple logo was designed, but Steve just asked him to “don’t make the logo cute”.

When asked the reason for the logo’s rainbow bands, Steve Jobs suggested that using a colorful logo would be a means to “humanize” the company. Janoff then says that there’s no particular reason behind the order of the bands, green at the top “because that’s where the leaf is”.
