How to clean the sink and wash your face

The sink and wash the face are the most frequently used areas in families, but not everyone knows how to keep them clean and beautiful.

Fiona Mills, cleaning technician for Spaulding Decon, a company that specializes in providing cleaning services in the US, reveals the best way to clean these two surfaces.

Sink

Dishwashers are usually made of stainless steel. Baking soda powder is a great way to cleanbecause it’s “abrasive enough to remove stubborn stains to any sink grease, but won’t scratch or damage stainless steel”.

You can clean the sink easily by sprinkling water on the surface, then spreading a thin layer of baking soda over it, covering the entire surface. The water will help the baking soda adhere, then scrub in the direction of the sink with a soft dish rag.

Then spray white vinegar on. Vinegar and baking soda will create a chemical reaction, bubbling, helping to clean thoroughly. Leave the surface on for 5 minutes to increase the effect.

Once the foam has settled, you can rinse the sink again, and then dry with a cloth to prevent water stains.

This is a deep cleaning and should be done twice a month or at least once a month. In daily life, wash the basin with dishwashing liquid with warm water after each use, removing all leftovers and soap residue. To really keep your sink clean, it’s also a good idea to dry it off after use.

Wash basins are usually made of porcelain. Experts recommend using warm water, mild soap (e.g. dishwashing liquid, hand soap) and a sponge for cleaning. Rinse off all soap residue and pat dry.

“Don’t use bleach or chlorine on the sink as this will damage the polish of the tub,” says Mills.

Experts also recommend avoiding alcohol and glass cleaners on sinks in general as they can discolor the protective coating. Never scrub with a stiff brush, steel pot brush or abrasive cleaning pads as this may scratch the surface.
