Samsung cooperates with iFixit to launch a program to repair smartphones and tablets at home

Starting this summer in the US market, Samsung will open a self-repair program for users. Samsung will provide users with all the tools they need to repair their devices at home, supported devices include the Galaxy S20 series, Galaxy S21 series, and Galaxy Tab S7 Plus.

According to Samsung, the program will provide “genuine equipment parts, repair tools and intuitive step-by-step repair instructions“. The program has a partnership with iFixit to make the repair instructions easier to understand for everyone.

Samsung says the screen, back glass and charging components are all part of the program, which will accept old parts returned by users for recycling. Samsung says that more devices will be included in the program in the future.

The company says the self-repair program will help users use smartphones and tablets longer, while reducing e-waste. It’s unclear if Samsung plans to expand the program globally.

Last November, Apple introduced a self-repair program for iPhone and Mac users, starting with the iPhone 12, iPhone 13, and Mac M1.
