The truth about the ‘dog-eating monk’ Nguyen Minh Phuc graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Law

Mr. Nguyen Minh Phuc or self-proclaimed “Venerable Thich Tam Phuc” has appeared in a series of clips on Youtube social networks, causing a stir with the nickname “the monk eats dog meat”.

Previously, the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Cu Chi district had clearly identified the person claiming to be “Venerable Thich Tam Phuc” and the place claiming to be “Central Hoang Phap Temple”. Accordingly, the self-proclaimed “Central Hoang Phap temple”, at address 174/13A Lang Cat hamlet, Tan Phu Trung commune, Cu Chi district is just a house to live in, not a place of religious worship.

And Mr. Nguyen Minh Phuc, who pretends to be a monk of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, is self-identified as “Venerable Thich Tam Phuc”. He also used fake documents and decisions to claim to be a monk of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.

Authorities suggested, Mr. Phuc immediately stop his statements contrary to social ethics, contrary to the tradition of the Vietnamese Buddhist Church, strictly abide by the State’s laws; respect the Buddhist tradition.

Regarding this issue, talking to VietNamNet, Mr. Nguyen Thanh An, Director of the Center for Business Relations and Student Support, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law said that this morning, April 2, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law held an organization graduation ceremony and awarding bachelor’s degrees to students. Mr. Le Minh Phuc came to congratulate a student because he knew each other and then Mr. Phuc rented clothes from photographers outside the school and took pictures in the school yard.

Then, on the internet, there was a picture of Mr. Phuc and mentioned that Mr. Phuc graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, causing many misunderstandings.

“The school confirms that Mr. Nguyen Minh Phuc was never a student of Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, so it is not possible that he graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Law. The dress that Mr. Phuc hires is also not the school uniform,” said Mr. An.

According to Mr. An, as soon as he discovered that Mr. Phuc was taking pictures in the schoolyard, the security guard discovered and invited him to move out of the student ceremony area. Therefore, the information online sharing and congratulating Mr. Phuc is incorrect.
