Twitter stops working on iPhone 6 and 6 Plus

iPhone 6 was discontinued by Apple many years ago, but there are still some users who use it as the main device. However, because the product is quite old, some applications have started to stop supporting the device. Specifically, users have noticed the Twitter app suddenly stop working on iPhone 6 and 6 Plus models, because the app requires the device to be running iOS 14 or later.

Users shared that they encountered the message “Tweets aren’t loading right now” when opening Twitter on iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The Twitter app stopped supporting iOS 12 in early 2021 – so both iPhone 5s and iPhone 6/6 Plus users can no longer run the latest version of the app since last year.

Even with the older version of the app, users still have full access to the social network, minus some features that are only available on newer versions of Twitter, but an update by Twitter this week removed removed support for iOS 13, and also made the old version of the app running on iOS 12 no longer able to load tweets.

If for some reason you still have an iPhone running iOS 13, you can still get the latest version of the Twitter app by upgrading to iOS 15, as all iOS 13 compatible devices support it. Latest iOS version available. For iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 users who have to stop at iOS 12, the only workaround is to use Twitter through the browser.

According to Apple, 63% of all iOS devices have iOS 15 installed, while only 7% run iOS 13 or earlier, so most Twitter users won’t be affected by this decision.
