U23 Vietnam can summon 50 players for SEA Games 31

Learning from the Southeast Asian U23 finals that took place in Cambodia last month, the organizers of the 31st SEA Games have come up with a solution to help men’s football avoid the risk of “breaking the match” because of the COVID-19 epidemic.

Specifically, each participating team will be allowed to register a preliminary list of up to 50 players, of which 20 are official players (including 3 over-age players) and 30 emergency backup players. The players on the standby list must be under 23 years old.

Depending on their ability, teams can bring all 50 of these players to Vietnam to attend the 31st SEA Games. Backup players will be registered if a player on the main team has COVID-19. In the event that 3 overage players are disqualified, teams will have to substitute U23 players.

This regulation helps teams avoid the case of losing or dropping out of the tournament because there are not enough players. In addition, it also ensures they have enough substitutes for each match and have the best competition.

In the past, Coach Park Hang-seo had many times to gather a large number of players on the U23 team as well as the Vietnam team. Therefore, the new regulations of the 31st SEA Games will help the Korean coach more comfortable in calculating and helping Vietnam U23 defend the gold medal.

The 31st SEA Games organizers will draw a draw for men’s football on April 6. Like the AFF Cup, U23 Vietnam and U23 Thailand are in the same seed group, so they will definitely not meet in the group stage.
