First logo

The first Apple logo was designed by Ronal Wayne, the co-founder of Apple, in 1976. The logo features Isaac Newton sitting under a tree with a dazzling apple hanging from his head. However, this logo was quickly replaced because Jobs did not like the concept too much.

Rainbow logo

This is the first logo. Jobs gave Rob Janoff (a graphic designer) the task of coming up with a more appropriate and awesome design for the logo. In an interview, Janoff said he didn’t know any information on how the Apple logo was designed, but Steve just asked him to “don’t make the logo cute”.

When asked the reason for the logo’s rainbow bands, Steve Jobs suggested that using a colorful logo would be a means to “humanize” the company. Janoff then says that there’s no particular reason behind the order of the bands, green at the top “because that’s where the leaf is”.

Matte blue logo

In 1998, the Mac line was released with the first available color being Bondi Blue. New Mac with a monochromatic apple logo in translucent, rainbow stripes disappearing for more simplicity.

Apple logo 2001 – present

By 2001, the Apple logo was fixed. With the red version used for warranty purposes and Apple Care technical support, the black version was reused in 2014 to replace the previous 2 silver-white versions.
