10 anime titles that would go bad if made into live-action (P.2)

The live-action adaptation of Dragon Ball Evolution has been criticized a lot, and the other anime that have been chosen for the adaptation have been in a similar situation. For one reason or another, making live-action anime is increasingly becoming an unpopular idea with fans.

5. Vinland Saga

Just like Berserk, Vinland Saga is one of the best medieval seinen manga available today. Vinland Saga also has a critically acclaimed anime adaptation with two seasons already out. The story revolves around the revenge journey of Thorfinn Karseflni – a boy living in 11th century Europe.

Vinland Saga also explores the themes of war, life purpose, pacifism, world exploration, etc. These topics will be subject to many limitations if turned into a live-action film. A movie that focuses solely on Thorfinn’s revenge journey would certainly make the plot a lot less interesting.

4. Fairy Tail

Serial anime tends to produce poor quality live-action adaptations, as they are often shortened to cram into a smaller number of episodes. Reducing or streamlining a plot that should span hundreds of chapters into a 1-2 hour movie or a series of less than 20 episodes is not easy. That’s why Fairy Tail is not a suitable work if you want to adapt it to live-action.

The live-action film Bleach is like a foreshadowing of what will happen if someone is reluctant to make live-action for massive anime or manga. Fairy Tail does not have a central plot, so no matter how well done, the live-action film only exploits a very small part of it.

3. That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime

That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime is one of the best isekai anime today. While there may be other masterpieces coming, the Slime live-action series is sure to flop. First, focusing the plot on a character that is a slime block is almost impossible.

Most of the characters are fantasy such as Japanese elves, giant wolves, goblins, lizard people… which is also quite difficult to adapt into live-action. In theory, Slime would be a better fit for a Pixar-style animation, not to mention the challenge that its more serious-message plot conveys.

2. Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-Kun!

The anime also has so many fantasy and supernatural elements that it’s hard to make a live-action adaptation. Nearly everything in this story will have to use CGI, except for the actors. Which means it’s also better suited to being adapted into a Pixar-style animation.

Anime does not have a main plot and if it is a live-action adaptation, one is forced to create a plot, which will easily disappoint the audience. In addition, convincingly building demons was also very difficult.

1. An Azumanga Daioh!

The series exploiting the story of high school students in this rom-com genre is very easy to build the context, design the characters and close to the audience. Anime has no ghosts, Quirks or curses. However, the plot of Azumanga Daioh is completely unsuitable for a live-action adaptation.

Undeniably Azumanga Daioh! Having an interesting and funny cast of characters, it very well fulfills its stated goal of conveying good messages. But live-action will require cutting the perspectives of each character, creating their own feelings and then connecting with others.
