“Leaving the street to the forest” at the time of translation, now I start to regret having to travel 2 hours to work and come home when it’s dark.

More than 2 years ago, when the epidemic broke out, leaving the city to go to the forest became a strong explosive trend. A small fully furnished house in the middle of the vast mountains, breathing fresh air in the morning, leisurely watching the clouds in the afternoon. A life away from dust, disease, just a few steps to the garden has a meal of clean vegetables. Children are playing in nature.

The scene of “leaving the city to the forest” was once a dream of urban families, especially when the epidemic broke out. That is also the reason that in such a short time, the trend of leaving the city to go to the forest has exploded so strongly. Also following this trend, land prices in the suburbs of Hanoi such as Ba Vi and Thach That (Hanoi) increased sharply.

Ms. NL’s family (Hanoi) is not an exception to that trend. In 2019, she and her husband spent more than 2 billion to buy a land plot of nearly 1000m2. In 2020, when the epidemic broke out, she and her husband both shared the view of “leaving the city to the forest”, enjoying the natural life, away from the noise and dust. Deciding to sell the apartment in the inner city, the whole family of Ms. L. went to farmstay to live.

There was a time when Ms. L. felt satisfied with her choice when the whole family studied and worked online. Although it is admittedly a bit inconvenient when it is difficult to access high-class utility services such as medical examination or shopping for daily necessities. But Ms. L. told herself that such a life would be economical and simple. She and her husband also think they will define such a peaceful life until their children grow up.

However, all plans change when life returns to the “new normal”. When family members were all infected with Covid-19, Ms. L’s and her husband’s agencies switched from online mode to face-to-face work. This also means that she and her husband have to get up at 5 am to prepare things, cook for their children and move to the inner city.

If before, when the epidemic occurred, the road was empty, it only took her and her husband 40-45 minutes to travel by car to the inner city. But until now, if it’s only 5-7 minutes late or if it’s bought, the travel time to the inner city takes up to 1.5 to 2 hours. In the afternoon, after finishing work, traffic jams in all directions also made Mrs. L. and her husband come home at 7-8 pm. Tired of traveling far, preparing meals and cleaning, Ms. L said, she did not have time to talk, play or tutor her children. At the end of the week, I’m busy cleaning and preparing food for the next week.

“The most miserable are the children. They want to go to painting, piano or most importantly, English because the teachers have reopened the class before, but their parents don’t have time to take them to school because they’re too far from the center.” , Ms. L said.

According to Ms. L. only after nearly 1 month of returning to a new normal life, she realized too many inconveniences and difficulties in being far from the center.

“If the whole family does online learning online, then staying in the forest is ideal. But when online learning is only temporary and now, everything is the same as before 2020, it is inconvenient to be far away from the center,” said Ms. L. added. The couple is currently contemplating selling their farmstay and buying an apartment in the inner city to facilitate their children’s schooling and parents’ work.

According to Mr. TA, a professional investor in the field of real estate, leaving the street to the forest is just a temporary “trend”. Because after the epidemic, everyone has to return to actual work as before. Living in the forest is only suitable for families who have a free time job or they identify it as a homestay business.

Mr. TA also acknowledged that, although the traffic infrastructure has been improved, in fact, traffic jams still occur due to the increasing population density. The trend of evacuating apartments to suburban areas creates traffic jams at the intersection between the inner city and the suburbs. Not to mention, leaving the city to go to the forest will accept education, medical examination and treatment, and other entertainment activities that will have to be limited or abandoned due to the long distance from the suburbs to the inner city. Mr. TA forecast, leaving the street to the forest will no longer boom as strongly as before, but it is still the choice of people with economic conditions.
