Four female 7th graders in Ba Ria – Vung Tau drowned in an irrigation lake, two women in Thua Thien Hue, Quang Tri were swept away by floods and died.

Seeing their friend in trouble, the other four children ran to call for help, but the lake area was deserted at this time. “A moment later, the fisherman in the distance heard him coming, swam out to pick it up, it was too late,” said a Hoa Hiep commune official.

The bodies of four female students were found by local people and functional forces and handed over to their families to take care of the aftermath.

Suoi Cac Lake is tens of hectares wide, providing domestic water and irrigation for Hoa Hiep commune.

In the morning of the same day, Ms. Le Thi Phuong, 36 years old, and Ms. Nguyen Thi Lai in Phong Chuong commune (Phong Dien, Hue) ride a motorbike to go to the market on the road of Bald Tom dike. When the motorbike crossed the dyke flooded with nearly 40 cm in Nhat Phong village, Phong Chuong commune, it was swept into the deep water field.

Ms. Lai was rescued by people casting nets nearby, Ms. Phuong went missing. At 11:30 a.m., the victim’s body was found about 20 meters away from the accident site. Phuong has two young children, the first one is in 7th grade, the second one is 2 months old.

In Hai Dinh commune (Hai Lang, Quang Tri), at 12 noon on April 3, authorities found the body of Ms. Le Thi Diem Quynh, 32 years old, near Mai Linh dike, about a kilometer from the accident site, after nearly a day missing due to floods.

Earlier on the afternoon of April 2, Quynh rode a bicycle from her mother’s house in Thien Dong village to her home in Trung Don village, along with Hai Dinh commune. The road that Quynh passed was flooded about 0.6-0.8 m deep, with heavy rain and strong winds. Unfortunately, this woman was swept away by the water.
