Ukraine claims control of the entire Kiev region
Ukraine’s military said it had regained control of “the entire Kiev region” after Russia withdrew from several key towns near the capital.
“Irpin, Bucha, Hostomel and the entire Kiev region have been liberated,” Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister Ganna Maliar announced on April 2, referring to towns that have been badly damaged since Russia launched the military operation. events in Ukraine on February 24.

The Ukrainian military announced it had regained control of Irpin and Bucha, towns outside the capital Kiev this week. Both towns recorded large civilian casualties.
AFP reporters saw at least 20 bodies on the street in Bucha. Mayor Bucha said 280 people were buried in mass graves.
Officials say at least 200 people have been killed in Irpin since the start of the fighting. Minesweepers have cleared 643 explosive devices since Ukrainian forces recaptured Irpin.
Russia has controlled Antonov Airport in Hostomel since the first day of the military operation. Satellite photos on March 31 show that Russian forces have leave the place this.
Russian negotiators announced last week that the military would significantly reduce operations in some areas, including around Kiev, to improve trust between the two sides. The adviser to Ukraine’s president also said that Russia is withdrawing from the northern part of the country to focus on eastern and southern Ukraine.
Ukraine estimates at least 20,000 people have died since the conflict broke out. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights recorded 1,325 civilian deaths and 2,017 civilian injuries but said the actual number could be much higher. More than 4.1 million refugees have fled Ukraine.
