Gas station ‘discharges warehouse’, free pumping for 500 cars

AmericaMany drivers queued through the night of March 31 to buy free gasoline on the morning of April 1 at a gas station in Massachusetts.

A total of 500 vehicles have been refueled from this free program. Ernie Boch Jr. – a business owner in Norwood, Massachusetts – decided to turn April Fools Day into April Fuels Day.

Previously, Boch posted a message on social networking site on the night of March 31, saying that it would give away a total of 26,500 liters of gasoline on April 1, and first come, first served. Soon after, a person came to line up at 9:30 pm on the same day, but the number of drivers pulling to the gas station increased rapidly.

The amount of gasoline is expected to be enough for about 400 cars, with each car only filling a certain amount, according to Boch’s calculations. And also as planned, the event will take place only in the morning of April 1, during 7-11am, with a total cost of about 30,000 USD. But in the end, Boch decided to extend the event so drivers farther away could fill up with gas before heading home, and a total of 500 cars received free gas.

Patrick Haines, a gas station attendant, said: “I’ve never had an experience like this. That’s great! Gas prices have eaten away at the wallet. So it’s like paying back the extra money you spent on gas. before”.

In early March, a report by the American Automobile Association (AAA) showed that the average price per gallon (3,785 liters) of gasoline was $4.06. In some places, like California, gas prices can reach $5,855. That’s what led to Boch’s decision.
