Recently, a 24-year-old Malaysian man was found guilty by the Singapore Supreme Court of sexually assaulting women and a series of other crimes, causing severe psychological trauma to the victim. The 27-year-old victim, whose identity is protected, was treated at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) for three months after the horrific incident.
The Strait Times reported that the victim and the accused have been colleagues since November 2019. After a while of knowing and talking to each other, the woman agreed to go out to eat with a male colleague after work on June 21, 2020.
On that day, the two met at a pub in this man’s compound. The two drank wine and chatted passionately with each other. However, after a while, the girl was drunk and unconscious. At this time, the new colleague revealed his true face. He took his phone and recorded 6 clips while the female colleague was drunk. He then carried the girl to his home, placing the victim on the sofa.
This guy took off the victim’s pants, took a photo and sent it to his friend. He then carried her to the bedroom where the victim was raped twice. Early the next morning, he continued to abuse his female colleague again. The man also texted his friend to show off the feat.
At about 9:30 a.m., the victim woke up and was shocked to find herself naked in an unfamiliar place. Next to him is a sleeping colleague. The woman also felt pain in her “private area”, so she immediately understood what had happened. She called the co-worker to wake up to ask her to clear things up, this guy frankly admitted and even showed her his phone, which contained the sensitive videos and pictures he had taken of her.
Shocked and scared, the woman immediately took the man’s phone, deleted all photos and videos, and quickly left. After the incident happened, the other man continued to harass the victim, asking about her whereabouts, despite her asking him to stop. Because of her obsession and fear, the girl decided to report the incident to the police.
According to the prosecutor, the victim suffered very serious injuries. Her ability to communicate and work was significantly reduced. In a report in December 2021, the victim said she always finds it difficult when colleagues and people around her ask about the rape. In addition, she also feels afraid of men, does not trust anyone, and worries that no one will accept her “dark past” in the future.
In the end, the now 24-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined 20 times with a stick. This sentence has partly reclaimed justice for the victim.
