For Chinh, scientific research is a “bright sky” for him to forget all the troubles and difficulties in life when he has a birth defect with an “unusual” face.

I don’t want to be called “a person with a disability who overcomes difficulties” because I just want to be a normal person

Born with Treacher Collins syndrome, Pham Duc Chinh (born in 1993, born in Thai Binh) has no earlobes, ear canals, cleft palate, sagging eyes, no cheekbones, and abnormal jawbone development. . Because of the unusual ear structure, Chinh’s hearing is severely impaired, only being able to hear about 30%. In addition, when communicating, he did not speak clearly and even had some unpronounceable consonants.

Despite many difficulties, Chinh always aspires to go to school and study like any other normal child. When he was 7 years old, Chinh asked his parents to go to school simply because he called his friend to go to school every morning. During the study, he overcame his limitations in listening and speaking ability by listening to lectures and guessing some content related to the lesson, looking at the notebook next to him to record the lesson, reading the book, and then reading the book. Make your own outline at home.

In addition, when communicating, Chinh often looks at the mouth of the other person to guess what he wants to say or asks the people around him and asks them to speak at a higher volume. These limitations are always considered “lightly” by the 9x boy and quickly adapted to birth defects. Even when facing everyone, Thai Binh doesn’t want to be called a “disabled person overcoming difficulties” because he just wants to be a normal person.

Earless guy from GPA 2.21 to Master of chemistry

During his elementary school years, Chinh did not feel completely interested in any subject but always kept his scores at a good average level. By chance, Chinh once observed the change of color of purple morning glory flowers when it fell into my new lime kiln. “Right after that, I witnessed my cousin do an experiment with the reaction Fe+ CuSO4= FeSO4+Cu, then explained, and provided me with some materials to read to familiarize myself with Chemistry”, Chinh recalled the event that made him happy. He has a knack for chemistry.

Chinh’s academic results are most prominent from the 8th grade year with strengths in natural subjects such as Math, Physics, and Chemistry. When he was in high school, he began to learn about his major and school on social networking sites, and immediately felt impressed with the University of Science and Technology from the first days of 10th grade. Therefore, Chinh outlined a clear direction. clear and well-rounded training goals. In addition to the classroom hours, he took additional classes organized by the school.

“Besides, I reworked the old question papers of my brother and sister studying at the exam preparation center (Thai Binh Pedagogical College), and at the same time, I searched for multiple-choice materials related to chemistry, practice tests of some schools for exam preparation,” Chinh shared.

Chinh’s early efforts paid off when he won the Third Prize in Chemistry at the provincial level and then passed the entrance exam to Hanoi University of Science and Technology with a score of 25.5 points.

In the first year of university, Chinh did not integrate deeply with his new friends, but his best friend from kindergarten to university lived far away, in different classes. Without a close friend by his side, Chinh admitted that at that time he was too delusional about college Test scores should go to school to take the form, “background”, without a specific plan, the GPA is only 2.21.

“I vividly remember the first year of school, every day I would go to the library to sit or go to the stone bench to open a book, read a few pages, do a few simple lessons, and then go home. It would take a while to study at home and then play Facebook again, no matter what. Emphasis is on mastering or synthesizing background knowledge.

In my 2nd and 3rd years, I made new friends and reconnected with old friends. The group of friends helped me regain my spirit, and together set up the outline, supplemented knowledge, asked questions and studied together, so I gradually improved my learning results,” Duc Chinh recalled.

In 2017, he graduated with distinction and was in the top 20 of Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Right after that, Chinh decided to choose to work at the Institute for Research and Development of Applied Natural Compounds of Hanoi University of Science and Technology and studied for a Master’s degree.

Currently, he has graduated with a Master’s degree and published a number of articles in international and national journals and specialized conferences. Chinh’s main work is associated with research on processes and equipment in chemical technology with a focus on advanced oxidation processes for wastewater treatment; research on technology of fruit juice concentration at low temperature and normal pressure (with the group Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Minh Tan).

As one of the research masters in chemical technology, Nguyen Duc Chinh is not under pressure from society’s expectations of useful inventions or research. Because he thinks, he will not run after the achievement of having to publish, publish how many works in a year, or run after the number and forget what the reality is.

“I also perceive myself as like a “brick” to build a project for science – technology” – Nguyen Duc Chinh said.
