Logistics costs weigh on exporters

The latest United Nations report said that freight rates can increase global import prices by 11%. International experts also forecast that sea freight rates will not return to normal this year. Thus, logistics costs are weighing on Vietnamese enterprises.

500 ha of raw material area, of which 95% of production is for export. Therefore, the problem of logistics costs is weighing on the goods of enterprises. Each container exported to China increases the fee nearly 4 times compared to before the epidemic. With current freight rates, being close to the importing country does not bring many advantages for Vietnamese agricultural products.

The proposed solution is to have one or more units collect goods, such as Long An international port which is proposing a model of “container bus”, or like Saigon Newport which has a water taxi service. , bring boats to agricultural warehouses to pack goods on the spot, provide container services, workers, deploy loading and unloading right at the port.

“When talking about container cargo, we should focus on the transshipment problem. The key issue is the container shell, the second is the cooperation between large shippers and shipping lines, and the third is barge transport. to connect,” said Mr. Nguyen Duy Minh, General Secretary of the Vietnam Association of Logistics Service Enterprises.

“We are trying to coordinate with shipping lines, logistics companies, state management agencies in the region so that shipping lines can open empty container distribution centers in Can Tho in particular and the Mekong Delta in general and from Here, shipping lines issue bills of lading here to reduce costs,” said Mr. Bui Van Quy, Deputy General Director of Saigon Newport Corporation.

Experts also suggested urgently dredging Cho Gao canal, the main waterway connecting the Mekong Delta to major ports in the Southeast, and having a more suitable arrangement for exploitation of inland waterway ports.
