Ministry of Finance refuses to reduce 100% environmental tax for airlines

In the newly released document, the Ministry of Finance has responded to the proposal of 100% environmental protection tax exemption and reduction for airlines in 2022.

According to the Ministry of Finance, in 2020, the Ministry has submitted to the Government and the Standing Committee of the National Assembly for promulgation 2 Resolutions stipulating a 30% reduction of the environmental protection tax rate on jet fuel (from VND 3,000/liter to VND 3,000 per liter). 2,100 VND/liter left). The total time for environmental protection tax reduction under the two resolutions is 17 months (from August 1, 2020 to the end of December 31, 2021).

Then, on December 31, 2021, the National Assembly Standing Committee continued to pass a resolution that increased the reduction of the environmental protection tax on jet fuel from 30% to 50%. The reduction period is implemented until the end of 2022.

In addition to the environmental protection tax, the Ministry of Finance said that compared with many other manufacturing industries, the aviation industry, besides benefiting from tax, fee and general fee support policies. For example, the policy of reducing the VAT rate by 2% (from 10% to 8% in 2022); the policy of extending the tax payment deadline (VAT, CIT…), extending the land rent or the policy of exemption and reduction of some fees and charges…

“In the context of the state budget balance is still difficult, but many important and strategic spending tasks still have to be ensured, such as spending on ensuring social security, hunger eradication and poverty reduction, epidemic prevention and control. then businesses also need to have a certain share with the state,” said the Ministry of Finance.

Data from the General Statistics Office shows that international visitors to our country in March reached 41,700 arrivals, up 41.4% over the previous month and 2.2 times higher than the same period last year. Generally, in the first quarter of 2022, international visitors to our country were estimated at nearly 91,000 arrivals, up 89.1% over the same period last year.

According to the most feasible scenario proposed by the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam for 2022, Vietnam’s aviation market will reach 42-43 million passengers, equivalent to more than half of the time before the 2019 epidemic.

And analytical data from the travel tracking tool Google Destination Insights shows that the number of international visitors searching for Vietnam’s aviation has always remained at a very high level, even as of January 21, 2022. 425%, as of February 3, 2022 (the latest update date) increased by 374% over the same period in 2021. Among them, countries such as the US, Australia, Russia, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore, India, UK, Canada… have the highest search volume for tourist information about Vietnam.
