Ngoc Giau: ‘Cai Luong is lacking a good script’
Ngoc Giau assesses that the young generation has vocals and enthusiasm when following in the footsteps of reform, but they lack good scripts and roles to become famous.
The artist is one of the judges of the show Hundred years of Vietnamese light. According to the People’s Artist, the younger generation sings well and acts well, but lacks good scripts to make an impression on the audience. Therefore, many people are winners of reformed competitions but are still not famous. “The famous composers have all passed away. Good roles like Kieu Nguyet Nga, Duong Van Nga … mark the name for our generation now where can we find it, we can’t even hope to have it. I see it as It’s a pity for the current reformed subject,” she said.
Ngoc Giau does not set strict criteria for marking the exam, but just wants to impart experience to the candidate in the spirit of “true and beautiful”.
Her full name is Phong Thi Ngoc Giau, born in 1945. The artist is famous since childhood with her endearing voice. At the age of 12, she was accepted into the Mai Lan Phuong – Ngoc Chieu singing troupe with the role of behind-the-scenes recitation. The owner of a major record label in Saigon, after hearing her – then 14 years old – audition, signed a long-term contract. In 1960, she won the Thanh Tam Award for the main role of Dieu Thuyen. Ngoc Giau has the ability to act in a variety of roles, from the roles of peach blossom, mother, peach, martial artist, to the role of a boy, a child… To date, she has played hundreds of roles on stage, movies and television shows.
